Camping with the Ham Mobile

Camping Season is back ! This year Marina and I reserved our camping spot at Oka National Park months in advance to make sure we get a spot we like. A few weeks before it’s time to leave, I realize I still don’t have a car to get there. It hardly seems worth renting a car for a full week, just to drive it TO camping and then back, so instead I bought a cheap car ! Strangely enough, one of the most exciting parts of this is the fact that I finally get to use my HAM RADIO Licence Plates that I received almost a year ago but never got to put on a car !! So YAY, my first Ham Radio ID’d car. (I should point out that here in Quebec, ONLY ham radio operators get customized licence plates with their call sign. Everyone else simply gets what they get.

Nice ride for camping, you should be able to fit tons of stuff in there. How are your laws about vehicle safety? Here in Manitoba you never see people buying cheap vehicles anymore since they need to pass a government safety before they can be registered.
Does anyone know if ham/mobile/CB radio operators have the capabilities to eavesdrop on wireless and/or landline telephone conversations? If so, would it be possible to zero in on a specific, wireless home phone, by address or position instead of by number.
We have a civil lawsuit pending…Based on some odd information that was exposed during previous negotiations; I suspect some “funny business” is going on. It just so happens, that the defendant in this case, is a “radio head” with a top-of-the-line base and 4 mobile units.
Anyone with a scanner can listen to neighbors’s phone calls while they’re using a cordless telephone. Not cell phones. Land Lines would require the guy to physically connect a device right on the person’s phone line.
Although to “zero in” is more just a matter of realizing how far the signal is coming from. It can be done, but I seriously doubt that that’s what’s going on in ure case…
