I'd say the obvious reason more people don't have panels is the costs though. If you already have grid power, it's hard to justify a massive investment for something that may take 20 years to pay off. If the place doesn't ALREADY have electricity though it's a whole other story. Installing solar panels and a wind turbine is usually cheaper for off-grid homes or vacation cottages than the cost of initially having the power company bring lines to your home.
