Over the last few weeks I’ve been exchanging emails with Maria from SolarSuno in Spain who is in the process of installing a solar system with her husband Emileo at one of their customers.

Basically, as you know, my sister and her hubby have a nice new small house in an outskirt of Kingston, Ontario, and have been living with no electricity and no plumbing for over a year now.

It is a great thing indeed. I'd say the obvious reason more people don't have panels is the costs though. If you already have grid power, it's hard to justify a massive investment for something that may take 20 years to pay off. If the place doesn't ALREADY have electricity though it's a whole other story. Installing solar panels and a wind turbine is usually cheaper for off-grid homes or vacation cottages than the cost of initially having the power company bring lines to your home.

Great for them. It's good to see that solar energy is spreading across the world. I don't get why more people don't use solar panels, especially in hot areas. The technology is available and there are plenty of tax credits and rebates for them.
