My Razor E200 Electric Scooter review

Last Thursday I was at a customers and noticed this tiny little electric scooter inside the IT guy’s office. I asked him about it, and he told me that he uses this scooter to get to and from work regularly during the summer. By car, it would take him 20 minutes to get to work. He comes in with the scooter, then plugs it in his office to recharge so that it’s ready to go back at the end of the day ! Wow !
Needless to say I went online and started looking into this scooter. It can go up to 12 MILES per hour for 40 minutes. That’s more or less a 15 km drive with a single charge ! The selling point for me was the low price tag: $200 dollars ! I bought one the next weekend.
I went to a couple of stores that were supposed to sell it, but they were all out. I lucked out to find this one, the last one on the shelf, at Toys’R'Us. (I can’t believe this thing is made for children 12 years old and up!) The box was in bad shape so I was worried about the contents, but everything was fine.
Pro’s :
- Decent speed
- Good Battery life
- Built SOLID
- It’s Quiet
- Eco-Friendly and gas free !
Cons :
- It’s very heavy. About 55 pounds.
- When the batteries are dead, you can’t really use it as a regular scooter and push yourself along because there’s too much drag on the wheels caused by the motor that’s attached. (A neutral button or something would have been helpful)
- Do not turn too sharply with it or the sides of the bottom will hit the floor.
- 220 lb weight limit. No problem for me, but I know some friends that would buy this if it wasn’t for that limit. (They’re a little too close to that number for comfort)
So far, i’m very happy with this new toy of mine. I take it on the metro (subway) and then scooter around from there to customers downtown. It’s a lot faster than walking that’s for sure ! I have big plans for this scooter. I will attempt to double up the batteries that are in there to get more runtime, and up the voltage a little bit to get some more power from the motor in order to go a little faster. (It’s at 24 volts now, I might set it up to run at 30 or 36 volts)
I recommend this product for adults who don’t weigh too much, and for responsible children. When I was 12, I would have killed for something like this !
Edit : I’ve had it for 2 weeks now and it’s still running great. I had to tighten the chain after a couple of days because it was making noise, but even that was easy and it came with detailed instructions on how to do it in case you can’t figure it out by looking at it. Since then haven’t had to do anything. Still planning on adding more batteries, and i’ve read about people that push the 24 volt motor at 36 volts which makes it go faster, but I haven’t decided if I want to risk killing my motor.

SERIOUSLY COOOOOOL!!! What a great idea! This is so perfect for someone living downtown within scooter distance of just about everything. I’ll have to visit soon to try it out. Looks like it would be a blast to ride!
$200 is a snip for this! I’m going to look out for one for myself. Do they do them in black? It’s got to be black.
No I’m afraid this model only comes in green, although it would seem easy to spray paint it and make it look good anyways. I can’t wait to double the battery power and make it run at 30 volts instead of 24!
i LOVE it! i just got one a couple of days ago, pretty zippy i might say, since i don’t live to far from my work place, which takes me 15 mins to get there, i got on the scoot and got there in about 5 mins….it’s so fun and environmentally friendly ^_^
how do i tighten/loosen the chain on a E300/ its probably the same for E200 and E100. i heard that loosening the chain a little makes it go faster? but i can find it anywere on the web how to loosen it. if someone can help that’d be awesome!! and i love the scooter its so much fun!!!
hey i was just wondering what i would exactly need to do to increase the
running volts to 30 from 24. Is it just a matter of bigger batteries or what..thanks for any help
TOTALLY recommending this to my parents for a B-day for me
lol
In order to increase power (24v to 36v) you need to add another 12 v battery in series. The bigger problem is you have to also change the controller box and throttle to 36 volts! If you are looking for a longer ride, just buy batteries that have a higher AH (amp hour) rating. Everything has to match the 24 volt motor that you have.
I bought this for my son in May and he rode it mabey four or five times. Today it wasn’t so hot outside as fall is approaching so he decided to take it for a spin. Within a few minutes of riding it made a horrendous noise and the chain came off. I put it back on, but it continues to fall off every time he tries to ride. What a piece of crap! After 5 uses the chain falls off? Come on? A total waste of $200 bucks.
I think you need to put the chain back on, and then tighten it !! (I had to do this shortly after buying it, but never since) Read the instruction manual to know how to tighten the chain.
How much do you weigh? My 12 yr old daughter is 5’7″ and 150 lbs – the size of an adult – and hers shuts down after about 1/2 a block on flat terrain. The only thing we can think of is it’s not handling the weight, but the product specs say it’s made for 12 yrs + and up to 220 lbs. Battery is charged according to direction and my 8 yr old has no problems at all. I’m very disappointed in this product thus far because the motor overload happens consistently. Any suggestions of how to attain more ‘power’ without having to return it?
The chain………..
I’ve had my little scooter for over 2 years.
Keri, before you call it a piece of junk, have a pro tighten the chain.
Take it to a motorcycle shop if you need to.
Chains stretch at first, scooter, bike, motorcycle, go kart, whatever.
It’s only natural for a new chain to stretch when new.
You’ll find that once the chain is adjusted correctly, you’ll have a lot of fun with this. I’m a 200 pounder, and have ridden mine very hard!
Barbara: either there’s something wrong with the motor(doubtful) or the batteries have gone stale. I replace my batteries about once a year.
And, I have gotten brand new batteries that sat on the shelf too long, and went stale. New doesn’t always mean they haven’t been sitting awhile!
